BASE Play RBI
BASE Play RBI is an after-school program providing academic support and life changing experiences through baseball and softball to students living in economically distressed communities.
BASE Play RBI targets students who are struggling academically or behaviorally, serving 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. It is offered at no cost, with select program graduates going on to Chihuahuas NeXt with BYAA and the AVID program in middle school, as well as coming back into the BASE Play RBI program as practice and assistant coaches.
In the 2016-2017 academic year, BASE Play RBI processed 485 registrations over two seasons of play, fall and spring. By collecting participants’ grade data at 3-week intervals and through the mentorship and academic support offered by BASE Play staff, coaches and volunteers, 82% of students failing 1 or more classes transitioned to passing grades by the end of the season of play.
In 2016, BASE Play RBI became an affiliate of Major League Baseball Youth Programs under RBI. BYAA is one of 220 RBI affiliates in the nation.
Currently available in 8 Clint Independent School District schools, Border Youth Athletic Association is working to extend the BASE Play RBI program to the Gadsden Independent School District. The program expansion is contingent on private sponsorship. If you are interested in sponsoring our expansion, teams, or events please visit our sponsorship page.
